Confluence

In the deserts of southern Utah where the slot canyons Wire Pass and Buckskin Gulch meet the canyons widen into an amphitheater. In one wall is an alcove where a ledge has formed about 12 feet above the canyon floor. Indians some time in the past carved steps into the soft sandstone to provide access to the ledge. Ancient fires have darkened the far corner of the alcove. Faintly visible on the upper walls of the alcove are ancient petroglyphs, barely discernible, faded by exposure and time. I can picture in my mind an Indian carving these symbols by the light of his fire. Someday I may paint that scene.
